What is an NPC shift?

NPC shifts only take place at live events and are a segment of time we ask each player to give back to the game to go “behind the scenes” to play roles that are needed at the time. Roles could be things like playing a random traveling merchant, a shambling husk enemy, and a lot more. A standard NPC Shift for attending a full event is 4 hours and can be scheduled on the Events page of the website alongside RSVPing for the weekend. If you are only attending for a day/purchased a day game ticket, we only ask for 2 hours of NPC.

When do I obtain new XP beyond character creation?

At character creation, you are given 16 XP to use per character. Upon attending your first event and all future events, you receive an additional 4 XP. Players may also purchase additional XP at a rate of $10 for 1 XP, up to 2 XP per event, for a maximum of 6 total XP gained per event.

Your initial 16 build is given to all three character slots, however further XP only gets applied to alt characters/ other character slots when purchasing an alt ticket. If you are ever unsure of which type of ticket to buy, please contact staff and we will be happy to help.

Please note that your first event is free, however you may choose to purchase extra XP if you would like, but you do not have to pay for the base ticket for your first event.

There are other ways to obtain additional XP in an event, including a referral bonus for bringing in new players past their first event, submitting a backstory for your character, and additional promotional events we may announce.

Can I purchase XP for games I haven’t attended?

NPC shifts only take place at live events and are a segment of time we ask each player to give back to the game to go “behind the scenes” to play roles that are needed at the time. Roles could be things like playing a random traveling merchant, a shambling husk enemy, and a lot more. A standard NPC Shift for attending a full event is 4 hours and can be scheduled on the Events page of the website alongside RSVPing for the weekend. If you are only attending for a day/purchased a daygame ticket, we only ask for 2 hours of NPC. There are NPC opt out tickets available in a limited quantity, but we highly recommend doing an NPC shift if you can, as it helps Story and the game feel more alive.

4

How soon before an event should I register/RSVP?

Ideally as soon as possible once registration is announced. Tuesday nights before an event is when we pay site for everyone who has RSVP’d for the incoming event, so completing your RSVP, payment (if you are a returning player), and NPC shift by Tuesday night is what we ask. Players who do not complete these steps by Tuesday may end up with a blank sheet they may have to fill out by hand as we also print the character sheets shortly after that.

That being said, you can still attend any event last minute, even if you decide on doing so after the registration deadline.

5

I dont think I like how I built my character, can I change them?

You may “rewrite” or change anything about your character (reallocate XP, change mutant type, etc) at any time and however many times you would like within the first three events that you play. After your third event, your character sheet is locked and any updates are only made by Logi based on the sheet we receive after the game with any character growth updates. Rewrites can also be purchased with Sun Points and details can be found in the Aftermath Rulebook.

One rewrite is also given to all players for major updates. Please join our Discord to be up to date on major updates and announcements regarding rewrites.

6

After receiving my sheet, do I need to print it out to bring it to the event?

No, you do not need to print your own sheet and are encouraged not to as we adjust build before printing for your upcoming game and will have it ready to give to you before you enter play.

7

I don’t own a larp weapon, what do I do?

At Aftermath LARP, new players may use our own weapons on loan. We recommend reaching out to Staff before an event so we can ensure to set your preferred weapon type aside for you to use as long as it is available. Loaner weapons can be picked up at Ops during game and must be returned to Ops at the end of game or whenever you are leaving for the event.

8

At live events, what is the arrival/parking/camping situation?

Arrival time is usually around 3PM but may vary, please join our Discord and wait until a member of Senior Staff announces it officially before coming onto site as a courtesy to our site owners. Most areas of site where we play can be accessed by car for ease of unloading and loading, and we have a nearby area for people to park and car camp. However, cars must not enter the play space after the game has started and can only be driven back after the game has ended and after closing announcements unless in specific circumstances or emergencies.

The site we play at does not have cabins, so if you do not intend to car camp, please bring all necessary camping supplies to stay safe and comfortable for both hot and cold weather.

9

How can I cook food on site at a live event?

You are responsible for bringing and making your own food at game. There is a grill available on site, however there may be limited propane. We suggest reaching out to Staff beforehand and possibly bringing additional propane in the event that we run out. You may also bring a personal camp stove. While cooking with any flame or gas, please prioritize safety above all else. If a mod rolls up and you think you may need to step away for combat or any other reason, please clarify that you are going out-of-game, put your hand on your head to signify you are OOG, and please turn off the gas and/or flame and step away from the area before going back into game to deal with any combat or business that needs to be taken away from cooking areas. Never leave an area unoccupied when cooking.

Is there a list of in-game recipes and blueprints available?

Not officially. Aftermath LARP is a discovery system, and there are still undiscovered recipes and crafting projects present in the game that we want to give players the wonder and surprise at creating. We encourage you to seek out materials and ingredients and experiment or seek other artisans for their recipes while at game.
